Day 18: Jeremiah; The Ruined People
Jeremiah 9:1-11, 13:1-11
Sometimes we need basic illustrations to show us how our sin is effecting our lives and our relationship with God. In the later story – God tells Jeremiah to to buy a linen loincloth (like underwear)…
So imagine the Lord telling you this…. – go to Victorias Secret, and get some nice underwear….. Put them on, but do not wash them. Then go down to the Mississippi River and hide your undergarments there in the rocks.
After a long time… (the bible isn’t clear how much time this is) – go back down to the river and get your undies… you will see they are rotting and falling apart. Now the undies are good for nothing!
The Lord tells Jeremiah, “These wicked people refuse to listen to me. They stubbornly follow their own desires and worship other gods. Therefore, they will become like this loincloth – good for nothing. As a loincloth clings to a man’s waist so I created Judah and Israel to cling to me, says the Lord. They were to be my people, my pride, my glory – an honor to my name. But they would not listen to me.” – Jeremiah 13:10-11.
I need to self rot any pride away from me. I have pride in my own heart when I think my way is better, or easier than Gods.
