Jesse Tree – Day 1

Happy December! My favorite month of the whole year, and welcome to this 25 day series! I will [try to] be posting once each day as we lead up to Christmas!

I wanted to add a whole other dimension to our Christmas traditions this year that poured back to the true meaning of Christmas vs. Elf on the Shelf, Advent Calendars which either have your kid eating candy every day on top of their left over halloween candy, or have mom and dad running like a mad-man doing various activities, or being overly involved with the lie of Santa, and gifts gifts gifts. (Yes that was a run on sentence.)

I am very keen of author, Ann Voskamp, who wrote One Thousand Gifts, and was the inspiration to my own gifts list, the new book, The Broken Way, and The Greatest Gift.

Last year leading up to Christmas she did a free video blog and spoke a lot about The Jesse Tree. This ages old tradition reads through the old testament starting with Creation and leading up to the birth of Jesus. Jesse is King Davids father- the root of Christ, Isaiah Chapter 11 starting with verse 1 says ~ “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.”

I’ve seen lots of adorable Jesse Tree’s on Pinterest and Etsy, but a lot of them are either unaffordable, or must be ordered online, and December 1 is already here, and I don’t have Amazon Prime, or rather Amazon now, but the temptation is real folks!

So – I figured I’d do the second best option, a Jesse Tree blog series!

Day 1: Creation; The World
Genesis 1:26-31 ~ The Message

God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”God created human beings;he created them godlike,Reflecting God’s nature.

He created them male and female. God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth. Then God said, “I’ve given you every sort of seed-bearing plant on Earth And every kind of fruit-bearing tree, given them to you for food. To all animals and all birds, everything that moves and breathes, I give whatever grows out of the ground for food.” And there it was. God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good! It was evening, it was morning
Day Six.

Today’s Jesse Tree symbol is the world.  God made the world and everything in it. That statement in and of itself is absolutely profound and humbling. As I look around even at “man made things” – I realize we still got all of these materials from substance that He made. Even the computer I’m typing on is from metal elements that HE created that are responsible for the synapses that make it work!

Whenever we travel to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness I am in complete AWE of His creation. I look around at the wonderment and beauty of it all and it absolutely catches my breath, and I feel close to Him.

Thank you, God, for making the world. Thank you for making the BWCAW right in my “back yard” to enjoy multiple times each year. Thank you for making ME, and everyone I know.  Everything you made shows how wonderful you are.
